What is the rainy season like in Boquete?
The rainy season begins usually in May and lasts until about the end of November. Last year (2000) we had very little rain all season. This year is starting out the same. We have had rains from only about 30% of the days in the last month. Usually we have very clear mornings and then around noon we get rains that can be heavy at times. The rains usually last until the late afternoon and the cycle begins again. I have seen it rain for several days straight but that is very rare. When it rains it pours, although it is hard to give exact yearly measurements. Just one mile from where I am it can get twice the amount of rainfall. There are many microclimates depending on where in the mountains and valleys you are. Summer or dry season begins in December and in January the winds usually begin. Again, depending on your location they can be very gusty and strong. It is always very green and fertile here even in the middle of the dry season. The earth is a dark volcanic soil that grows whatever is stuck into it. We are in coffee country and there are coffee farms everywhere. Coffee requires a mild climate with cool temperature. The dry season is cooler and the temperature can dip down in the 50s at higher altitudes. The town of Boquete sits right in the middle of the valley and sees less rain than the surrounding areas. It always feels 5 degrees warmer in town. Boquete sits very near the continental divide and on the Pacific slope.
